چکیده

In this paper we study a reversing train puzzle proposed by Sam Loyd near the turn of the century. We concern ourselves with a version of this puzzle described most recently by A. K. Dewdney in Scientific American. There is a train, locomotive and n cars, that must be entirely reversed using only a short spur line attached to the main track. The efficiency of a solution is determined by summing, for all cars, the total distance moved by each car, where distance is measured in car lengths. We present an O(n’ log, n) algorithm for accomplishing this task. 8 1989 Academic PESS,

Robust Algorithms for Sorting Railway Cars

We consider a sorting problem from railway optimization called train classification: incoming trains are split up into their single cars and reassembled to form new outgoing trains. Trains are subject to delay, which may turn a prepared sorting schedule infeasible for the disturbed situation. The classification methods applied today deal with this issue by completely disregarding the input orde...

Dynamic Cargo Trains Scheduling for Tackling Network Constraints and Costs Emanating from Tardiness and Earliness

This paper aims to develop a multi-objective model for scheduling cargo trains faced by the costs of tardiness and earliness, time limitations, queue priority and limited station lines. Based upon the Islamic Republic of Iran Railway Corporation (IRIRC) regulations, passenger trains enjoy priority over other trains for departure. Therefore, the timetable of cargo trains must be determined based...

Locomotive assignment problem with train precedence using genetic algorithm

This paper aims to study the locomotive assignment problem which is very important for railway companies, in view of high cost of operating locomotives. This problem is to determine the minimum cost assignment of homogeneous locomotives located in some central depots to a set of pre-scheduled trains in order to provide sufficient power to pull the trains from their origins to their destinations...

Solving a New Multi-objective Inventory-Routing Problem by a Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm

This paper considers a multi-period, multi-product inventory-routing problem in a two-level supply chain consisting of a distributor and a set of customers. This problem is modeled with the aim of minimizing bi-objectives, namely the total system cost (including startup, distribution and maintenance costs) and risk-based transportation. Products are delivered to customers by some heterogeneous ...
